Mineral sunscreens (aka physical sunscreens) use UV filters such as zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide, which are meant to scatter and reflect UV rays.
However, a commonly cited study demonstrated that mineral sunscreens absorb ~95% of UV rays and only reflect back ~5%, making them function like chemical sunscreens.
* Generally, well-tolerated by those with sensitive or acne-prone skin. Thicker consistency and increased white cast compared to chemical sunscreens.
